Adventures Down Under

Hello.

My name is Kelsey Carver, a senior communication major with a triple minor in  AD & PR, health communication, and psychology. I am currently studying abroad in Sydney, Australia. I chose this program because it is only a 3week program, so I would be able to spend my last semester at Marietta College, but it also gave me the ability to get experience aboard and branch out of my comfort zone. I am taking an International Marketing class as well, which will give me experience within my field to broaden my knowledge.

My adventures so far have consisted of watching the famous Sydney Fireworks on New Year’s Eve, exploring Darling and Sydney Harbors, climbing the Pylon at the Sydney Bridge, going to Bondi Beach and a weekend trip by taking the ferry over to Manly Beach to experience the nightlife and walk the famous scenic tour, all while eating really great food and gelatissimo with some new great friends.

Field Trip

As a field trip, our class went to Taronga Zoo and got to hang out with some kangaroos and Koalas. What was super interesting was that the Kangaroos were not enclosed by a barrier; they just roamed freely in a certain area. I was 10 feet away from one, and he seemed very unbothered. Koalas are endangered, and on the verge of going extinct because of the bush fires, so it was cool to get a personal encounter with one. After the zoo, I took the ferry to Watsons Bay. Sydney has over 100 beach coves, and all of them are so beautiful with crystal clear water.

One of my favorite spots so far has been Wendy’s Secret Garden. This garden sits right outside of North Sydney with amazing views. Great spot for a picnic and to relax after a long day! I only have one week left of this journey, and I am so excited for the many adventures to come.
